Love chocolate?? So do I!
Luckily I can justify the occasional chocolate treat given the health benefits of cacao. The only issue is that I need to keep it low sugar to keep my inflammation at bay. While there are many brands with a high % cacao to choose from, sometimes, I want something homemade!
Here is a fantastic recipe that can be customized with different toppings to suit your preferences. Enjoy!
One of the benefits of making homemade chocolate is that you get to control all the ingredients and customize this recipe to be your own. Feel free to substitute different nuts or seeds and add dried fruit if you need it sweeter (just don't add too much!)
- 1/2 cup virgin coconut oil
- 1 cup cacao powder
- 2 dashes sea salt
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
Melt coconut oil, and whisk in maple syrup, salt, and cocoa/cacao powder until smooth. Stir in slivered almonds until evenly distributed.
Pour into a parchment lined 8x8 square baking dish. Store in fridge or freezer to avoid melting.
If you are diabetic or trying to reverse metabolic syndrome, feel free to substitute stevia or Lakanto for the maple syrup.
