I never used to use apple cider vinegar (ACV). In fact, I didn’t even know what it was or that it existed.
Then I started changing my diet and lifestyle habits to overcome my health issues. The opportunity to buy and use ACV seemed to come up more and more.
Now, I make sure that I never run out of it. There are so many great uses for ACV that eliminate the need for other products. This saves me money, improves my health and reduces the number of chemicals in my home that can cause negative health symptoms such as impeding weight loss.

Helps Reduce Heartburn
Do you experience indigestion or heartburn? Then ACV can be a big help. One of the first things I recommend to help reduce/eliminate heartburn is to take a bitter such as ACV in some water 15 minutes before meals. I have written an entire post on heartburn here.
This works by stimulating the body to produce sufficient stomach acid to properly digest our food. Most of us have too little stomach acid, so our food sits and ferments in our stomach causing bloating/indigestion. Then sometimes the food can travel back up the esophagus causing us the discomfort of heartburn.
Makes a Delicious Salad Dressing
You can make this as easy or fancy as you like. Just combining equal parts ACV and extra virgin olive oil can make for a delicious and simple dressing for your salad. You can then fancy it up by adding garlic, sea salt and pepper and herbs that you like.

Replaces Your All-Purpose Cleaner
I love that I no longer have any chemical cleaners in my home! Cleaning products contain chemicals that can lead to all sorts of health issues including, asthma, cancer, reproductive issues, allergies, and burns. The Environmental Working Group has a great detailed write up here of the many concerns with toxic cleaning chemicals that are common in many homes.
Now, I satisfy all my cleaning needs using water, foods in my kitchen (including ACV) and essential oils. There are some great recipes here for homemade (inexpensive) cleaners/fresheners that can be used all around the home.
ACV can be used for a number of different first aid functions including burns/sunburns. It has antiseptic properties and balances the pH of the skin making it helpful for reducing the pain and blisters from sunburns.
There are a couple of ways you can make this work. The first is to make a spray bottle of equal parts water and ACV and add 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil. Then spray on your sunburn. Or, add 2 cups ACV to your bath water and add a few drops of lavender essential oil and soak in the tub for about 15 minutes.
