Have you ever tried the store bought cereal called Holy Crap? It’s a fantastic, lightly sweetened cereal that can be mixed with unsweetened almond milk, or combined with plain yogurt or coconut yogurt and topped with berries.
We were eating so much of this cereal that I decided to put together a recipe so I could have a big batch ready-to-go at home.
My recipe includes the dried fruit that is in the store bought version, but you could also leave this out if you want to make it completely sugar free. (You can also buy this version too. It is called Skinny B and made by the same company).

Buckwheat is rich in anti-inflammatory flavonoid compounds that provide antioxidants to help maintain blood flow and protect against heart disease. They are also high in soluble fiber which helps to reduce the risk of gallstones as well as breast cancer compared with those who ate a low fiber diet.
Chia seeds are an excellent source of omega 3 fats and fiber, both of which are an important part of a healthy diet. Be sure to increase your portions slowly to get your body used to the high fiber content.
Homemade Holy Crap Cereal
This recipe is simple to make and gives you an added alternative to top your berries, oatmeal or plain yogurt.
- 3/4 cup chia seeds
- 1/2 cup buckwheat groats
- 1/3 cup hemp seeds
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup dried apple can substitute dried apricots
- 2 tsp cinnamon
Combine all ingredients into a covered container. Serving size is 2 Tbsp. Enjoy with almond milk (let it sit for a while to absorb the liquid) or sprinkled on your oatmeal or plain yogurt.
